Woodworking Competiton 2009

Submitting photographs of entries - Please read carefully

1. Format: jpeg files only please
2. File size: no more than 2 Meg for each image. Anything over that will be rejected (sorry!)
3. Number of images: 2 images per entry

Your photos should reflect the design, thinking and craftsmanship, which have gone into the making of the piece. Presentation is all important. Care should be taken with backgrounds and lighting to ensure that the piece is shown to its best advantage. In-situ is a good idea if at all possible. If the teacher has not taken the photographs then we suggest that he/she checks them before they are submitted. The organisers cannot enter into separate discussions with entrants regarding photographs; these have to accompany the entry form

Merging images: If the object is a box, drawer unit or has a double purpose
As there will be only one of the photos placed in the website gallery one of the images should show both the exterior and interior of the piece or both its functions (e.g. chair/steps below) If this is not possible then, for gallery purposes, the organisers of the competition will choose the photograph which, in their opinion, is the best.

The judging panel views both images, for each entry, in reaching their decision

Examples of the good and the not so good!

Good shot
Double purpose:

chair/steps. In this
case the chair is shown
as an inset
Poor lighting
– and this has
been enhanced!
Good shot
Box:
only shown in the
competition gallery with the
lid on. One photo could show
both the outside and the
inside, as per the chair/steps
photo opposite
Poor backgrounds, too
much distracting clutter –
does not do justice to the
students’ skill
Could have done
without the flash
and placed on a floor
Well presented – what a difference it makes! Try to aim for this quality...if you can
In-situ
Well composed - no pun intended!
